Congratulations to the VAVA Winners of the 2024 K12 Photography Competition

The 2024 K12 Photography Competition boasted more than 12,000 entries from talented students nationwide. Among those were 417 submissions from students at Virginia Virtual Academy.

This annual competition celebrates the artistic skills of kindergarten through 12th grade students and provides a platform for them to showcase their unique perspectives through the camera lens.

A total of $20,000 in cash prizes were awarded to this year’s winners! In each grade level, the 1st place winner received $1,000, the 2nd place winner took home $500, and the People’s Choice winner—selected through public voting—earned $100.

We’re incredibly proud of every student who participated, whether as a first-time competitor or a seasoned photographer. Even more exciting, we are thrilled to announce that two of our students from Virginia Virtual Academy were among the winners!

Meet the Winners

Edward
People’s Choice Winner, 8th Grade
“Against a stark gray wall, a vibrant street art piece bursts with color and energy. The word ‘SHEETZ’ is emblazoned in a bold, graffiti style, with each letter crafted in a vivid palette of red, blue, and a fiery orange-yellow. The yellow and blue letters interlock and contrast strikingly, while the orange-red adds a warm, dynamic glow to the composition. The colors blend and splash into abstract patterns around the text, creating a lively and eye-catching mural. The hard gray wall, otherwise plain and unremarkable, serves as a stark backdrop that makes the vibrant artwork pop with an almost electric intensity.”

We couldn’t be prouder of Edward and Preston for their incredible achievements in this year’s competition. Their unique vision and dedication truly shined in their photography, and we can’t wait to see how they continue to evolve and flourish as artists.
