In the News: Celebrating Our Graduates … In Person!

Stories & Spotlights

It was a day of joy, pride, and inspiration as hundreds of students, families, and educators from across the Commonwealth came together in person to celebrate the Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA) Class of 2025. Nearly 400 students were honored at this year’s graduation ceremony – each one bringing their own story of perseverance, growth, and success through virtual learning.

“The Class of 2025 exemplifies our mission at VAVA, empowering students to reach their full potential in the ways that work for them,” said Kenny Moles, Executive Director of VAVA. “We believe that every student in Virginia deserves an education that adapts to their strengths, pace, and passions. These emerging leaders are stepping confidently into their futures, showing us what’s possible when learning is accessible at every level.”

This year’s graduating class reflects the wide range of paths made possible through virtual education:

  • 27 students graduated early, getting a head start on their next chapter.
  • 11 students are enlisting in the military, stepping up to serve their country.
  • 81 students already have job offers and are ready to enter the workforce.
  • 221 students will attend colleges and universities across the country.

Among them is Javier Contreras, a standout student-athlete from Warrenton who is heading to Lock Haven University to play collegiate soccer. Balancing academics with a semi-professional training schedule, Javier credits VAVA with giving him the freedom to succeed both on and off the field.

“Attending VAVA gave me the chance to chase my dreams,” said Javier. “I’m thankful an option like VAVA exists in Virginia because it provided flexibility for students like me—so I could pursue my passion without sacrificing my academics.”

As we celebrate this milestone in the lives of our students, the VAVA community is excited about the future and ready to support the next generation of students.
