How Trinity is Dancing Her Way through Virginia Virtual Academy
Trinity is a bright third grader who has been learning with Virginia Virtual Academy since first grade. For her, one of the best parts of virtual school is simple: she gets to stay home with her family. She also enjoys not having to wake up quite as early in the morning to commute to school – a small change that makes a big difference for a young student.
Each day, Trinity logs in and begins her classes online, including math, reading and English, art, and physical education. She follows a familiar routine and knows exactly where to go to find her lessons. That consistency helps her stay focused and confident as she moves through her school day.
Discovering a Love for Dance
When Trinity isn’t working on her school assignments, she is usually thinking about dance. Hip hop is her favorite style, and she takes classes regularly and practices at home so she can continue to improve. She first tried dance at her mom’s encouragement, and she quickly discovered that she loved it.
Dance has also helped Trinity build friendships. She enjoys spending time with her dance classmates and meeting new people, both in class and during playdates outside of dance. Her studio also performs stage productions, where students learn choreography and take part in large shows such as “The Nutcracker” and “The Wizard of Oz.” Trinity especially enjoys being on stage and lights up during performances.
Soon, she will begin acro classes, which combine dance with gymnastics-style movement. With her natural ability for cartwheels, flips, and splits, it’s an exciting next step in her growing love of dance – and performing.
Learning at Home, Growing Together
Trinity’s favorite part of online school is being close to her family – especially her siblings. Her mom serves as her learning coach and says she truly enjoys learning alongside Trinity. From reading and spelling to today’s new approaches to math, it has become a shared experience that strengthens their bond.
Virtual school also fits their family’s busy schedule. Trinity can complete schoolwork while traveling, riding in the car, or even waiting during appointments. This freedom allows learning to continue wherever life takes them.
Community, Connections and Confidence
Trinity has enjoyed in-person outings organized through the school. Her favorite was a playground event with a splash pad, where she could play and meet other students. These events help both Trinity and her learning coach feel connected to the wider school community.
Her mom describes the teachers as responsive, energetic, and creative – especially in online PE and art classes, where hands-on projects and fun challenges keep students engaged. Trinity agrees that learning at home helps her concentrate and pay attention more easily.
As she looks ahead, Trinity is happy right where she is – learning at home, growing in confidence, and dancing toward a bright future.
