Eligibility Requirements

Per Virginia school division partner guidelines, applicants for the Virginia Virtual Academy program must meet the following criteria:

  • Kindergartener applicants must be five years old by September 30th of the upcoming school year to enroll.
  • 2nd - 8th grade applicants must submit the final Report Card
    • The report card for 2nd–3rd grade applicants must indicate on- or above-grade-level reading proficiency. This can be a letter from the current teacher stating the student is reading on grade level and will be promoted at school year's end.
  • 4th–8th grade applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • 9th–12th grade applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • 4th–8th grade applicants must submit the results of the end of year assessments for eligibility determination.
  • All students that were in homeschool, private school, or attended school outside of Virginia during the prior year must submit proctored end of year assessment data showing on grade level academic performance.
    • All tests administered outside a testing facility must be administered by a state certified teacher. Copy of proctors teaching license and letter verifying that student took the test independently is required.

      • Stanford 10 (NOT THE ONLINE VERSION)
      • Woodcock Johnson
      • Standardized test results from states other than Virginia, if student moved to Virginia
      • If tests are not taken at an outside testing agency (ex. Sylvan, Huntingdon, Mathnasium), it will be required that a letter from a Virginia certified teacher who proctored the assessment, including a copy of the VA current licensure, be submitted.
    • * All prior homeschool students must also submit all of the above documentation.
  • 10th grade applicants must submit their final 9th grade transcript indicating each of the following:
    • Completion of 5 units of 9th grade credit
    • Pass 3 core 9th grade courses
  • 11th grade applicants must submit their final 10th grade transcript indicating each of the following:
    • Completion of 5 units of 10th grade credit and 5 units of 9th grade credit
    • Pass 3 core 10th grade courses and 3 core 9th grade courses
  • 12th grade applicants must submit their final 11th grade transcript indicating each of the following:
    • Have completed a minimum of 15 units of high school credit
    • Have earned a minimum of 9 credit hours in core course (English, Math, Social Studies, Science)
    • Have earned a minimum of 1 verified credit in each of the core subject areas
    • Show ability to meet all remaining graduation requirements within the 12th grade year, as determined by VAVA high school counselor
