Eligibility Requirements
According to Virginia school division partner guidelines, applicants for Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA) must meet the following criteria.
Applicants for
Kindergarten must be five years old by September 30 of the upcoming school year.
Grades 2–8 must submit their most recent report card.
- Report cards for grades 2–3 must indicate on- or above-grade-level reading proficiency. This can be a letter from the student's current teacher stating he or she is reading on grade level and will be promoted at the end of the school year.
Grades 4–8 must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and submit the results of their end-of-year assessments that show grade level proficiency.
Grades 9–12 must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Grade 10 must submit their final 9th-grade transcript indicating each of the following:
Completed five units of 9th-grade credit
Passed three core 9th-grade courses
Grade 11 must submit their final 10th-grade transcript indicating each of the following:
Completed five units of 10th-grade credit and five units of 9th-grade credit
Passed three core 10th-grade courses and three core 9th-grade courses
Grade 12 must submit their final 11th-grade transcript indicating each of the following:
Completed a minimum of 15 units of high school credit
Earned a minimum of nine credit hours in core course (English, math, social studies, science)
Earned a minimum of one verified credit in each of the core subject areas
Shows ability to meet all remaining graduation requirements in the 12th grade year as determined by a VAVA high school counselor
Previous homeschool students must submit all documents and assessments typically submitted to their local school division as a registered homeschool student. For any previous out of state or private students, end of year assessments that show grade level proficiency are accepted.
