Letter from Our Head of School

Dear Parents,

The Virginia Virtual Academy (VAVA), a tuition-free program of the King and
Queen County Public Schools, the Patrick County Public Schools and the Richmond
City Public Schools, makes it easy for you to be an active participant in your
child's education. VAVA students benefit from the engaging interactive K12
curriculum offline materials including textbooks and other instructional
materials, and the guidance and support of Virginia licensed teachers. In
short, the elements for an excellent education are provided to students
participating in our forward-thinking approach to learning.

Because Virginia Virtual Academy is a statewide program of multiple public-school
districts, students are required to participate in state-mandated standardized
achievement tests to demonstrate content understanding and academic progress,
and achievement measures such as state testing are important to us as we work
to ensure that each of our students is excelling in his/her academic pursuits.

We strive to create a balanced approach in educating our students that
provides the support and student-centered focus required to meet the needs of
students as unique and individual learners, and we work to strengthen our
learning community through developing age-appropriate school outings to
museums, roller- and ice-skating parks, local zoos, and other interesting and
enjoyable field trip locations. Events such as these bring families together
and create real connections within the VAVA community, while providing
enriching opportunities that compliments the curricular interests of our
students.

We are very proud of our students' successes and the support system we have
in place for our students through our outstanding parents, faculty, and
community. VAVA students continue to excel as learners in an age of technology,
and we believe that our school provides an excellent choice for families who
are interested in being actively involved in their children's education. We
hope to welcome you soon to the Virginia Virtual Academy community.

Best regards,

Suzanne Sloane
